The AAP government announced its suggestion earlier this month to free the Delhi Metro for females; a move that drew both the party’s praise and criticism.

However, in the recent update, claiming that there is no reason why a’ free ride ‘ system should be introduced, the Central Government dismissed the suggestion of AAP to give the same to females in the Delhi metro, according to a study from Times Now News.

In reaction to this question in the Lok Sabha, Union Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, the government of the Union is not of the opinion that there should be any free ride to anyone in the Delhi Metro.

The Center has requested the government of Delhi to review its choice not to begin the job on the Metro Phase 4 project until the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs of the Union has reviewed its permission for the same.

It was opposed by the government of the AAP, arguing that the government of the Union made some “unilateral adjustments” in the project, without giving any reasons.

Many, including women activists and ‘ Metro Man ‘ E Sreedharan, had previously thought that females were front-runners in all fields and do not mind paying for their own tickets.

Further, Sreedharan warned PM Modi over AAP’s free ride plan, claiming that the free service for women would’ve added to DMRC’s debt woes, which currently amounts to ₹35,000 crores already.
